Massachusetts votes on Tuesday, November 3, and Question 8 is on the ballot. The state's own summary says it would repeal the laws that legalize, regulate and tax the retail sale of adult recreational marijuana, taking effect January 1, 2028. In the official wording, a YES vote “would prohibit the legalization, regulation, and taxation of the retail sale of adult recreational use marijuana, and change the penalties for possession of marijuana”, and a NO vote “would make no change to the law relative to marijuana”. To be straight with you about what it does and does not do: possessing an ounce or less stays legal either way, and the medical program keeps running. What goes away is the licensed recreational retail market — the shops, the jobs and the growers and suppliers built around it, which includes a lot of our customers and a lot of our neighbors. That is why we are asking you to vote NO on 8.
