Master Class Calendar

Grow and mushroom classes at Matt's Hydroponics

We teach two free classes at Matt’s Hydroponics. Grow classes run every Saturday, and a mushroom class runs once a month. Both are open to anyone, both are completely free, and there is always pizza afterwards. Dates and RSVP are at the bottom of this page.

Grow classes — every Saturday

Every Saturday · 11 AM – 1 PM · Free

The Master Class series is four classes that follow a grow from start to finish — seed starting and cloning, the vegetative stage, flowering, and harvest. By the end of the four you have been through the whole life of the plant. It is taught by people who grow, not by a script, and you can walk in on any Saturday.

The series runs in rotation: Class 1 one Saturday, then Classes 2, 3 and 4 on the next three Saturdays, and then it starts over. Join on any week and you will have completed all four within a month. The calendar below shows which class is on which Saturday.

How it works

  • Saturdays, 11 AM – 1 PM, at the store
  • Drop in on any week — or RSVP below and we’ll save you a seat
  • Attend all four classes to complete the series
  • Earn a Certificate of Completion
  • Take home a free clone when you finish the series
  • Stick around for pizza and talk shop afterwards

Finish all four and this is yours — plus a free clone.

What the four classes cover

  • Seed starting & cloningGerminating seeds, taking and rooting cuttings, and getting seedlings and clones off to a strong start.
  • The vegetative stageBuilding a healthy plant — light, feeding, watering, environment and training before flower.
  • FloweringMaking the switch, feeding through bloom, keeping the room dialed in, and reading the plant as it finishes.
  • HarvestKnowing when to cut, then drying, curing and storing — and resetting the room for the next run.

Mushroom class — once a month

Once a month · Free · Date on the calendar below

Growing mushrooms has almost nothing in common with growing plants — different substrate, different environment, and sterile technique matters more than anything else. So it gets its own class rather than a footnote in the grow series. It runs once a month and it is free like everything else we teach.

  • Substrate & spawnWhat to grow on, and how to prepare it properly.
  • Sterile techniqueThe part that decides whether you succeed or grow mold.
  • Fruiting conditionsHumidity, air exchange and light — and how to hold them.
  • Harvest & next flushWhen to pick, and how to get a second round.

New to it entirely? That is the point of the class. Come with questions.

Everything we teach is free. No fee, no membership, no catch — and that includes the certificate and the clone at the end of the grow series. RSVP below so we can plan seating, or just show up.

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost?

Nothing. Every class we run is free — the Saturday grow classes, the monthly mushroom class, the certificate and the clone at the end of the series.

Do I need to RSVP?

Not for the Saturday grow class — you can walk in. We’d still appreciate an RSVP so we know how many chairs to set out. For the mushroom class please do RSVP, since it only runs once a month.

When are the classes held?

Grow classes run every Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM. The mushroom class runs once a month — the next date is on the calendar at the bottom of this page. Pizza afterwards, either way.

Do I have to start with Class 1?

No. The four classes run in rotation, one per Saturday, so you can join on any week and pick up the ones you missed as the rotation comes back around. You will have all four within a month.

How many classes do I need to complete?

There are four classes in the grow series. Attend all four and you’ll receive a certificate of completion and a free clone.

Can I attend just one class?

Yes — drop in for any single class. You only need all four to earn the certificate and the clone.

Is there really free pizza?

Yes. After class we put out pizza so you can hang around, ask the questions you didn’t want to ask in front of the room, and meet other growers.

Can beginners attend?

Absolutely — both classes are built for beginners and experienced growers alike. No prior experience needed.

What topics are covered?

The grow series follows the whole life of the plant: seed starting and cloning, the vegetative stage, flowering, and harvest — drying, curing and storage included. The mushroom class covers substrate and spawn, sterile technique, fruiting conditions, and harvesting.

Where do the classes take place?

At the store. See Locations & Hours for addresses, or call ahead to confirm which store is hosting.

Do I need to bring anything?

No — everything you need is provided. Bring a notebook if you like taking notes.

What does the certificate mean?

It means you completed all four classes of the grow series and covered a grow from seed and clone through veg, flower and harvest. It’s a nice thing to have on the wall.
