Luster Leaf Soil Moisture/pH Tester

Luster Leaf's Soil Moisture/pH Tester (model 1817) is a two-probe needle meter that checks either soil pH or soil moisture, chosen with a switch on the front. It works for house and greenhouse plants, containers and lawns, and comes with a pad for cleaning the probes.

How to use

  • pH: Remove the top 2" of soil and crumble the soil below to a depth of 5". Take out stones and debris, then wet the soil to a mud consistency, ideally with rain or distilled water. Lightly shine the left probe with the pad, set the switch to pH, push the probes straight down 4"-5", and read after 60 seconds.
  • Moisture: Set the switch to Moisture and clean the right probe with the pad. Push the probes in about two-thirds of the container's depth, midway between the edge and the stem. Water only when the needle reads on or below the watering letter given for your plant in the instructions.

Good to know

  • For use in soil only. Do not use it in liquids.
  • Small containers dry out faster than large ones, so check them more often.
