Description
Growing Organic Farm Crafted Horsetail Ferment is a seasonal Fermented Plant Extract made from horsetail fern. It is made on a small farm near Paonia, Colorado, using natural probiotic farming practices. The farm has operated under the direction of Miles Filippelli since 2016, producing plant inputs for the Fermented Plant Extracts line.
How it's made
Lactobacillus bacteria are saprophytes, meaning they are decomposers that break down organic matter. That trait is put to work in Fermented Plant Extracts, where lactobacillus are fed specific nutrient-dense food sources to break down plant compounds and extract them into a liquid form.
What's in it
Derived from Clean Mountain Water, Horsetail (Equisetum), Molasses, Sorghum syrup, Lactic Acid Bacteria sourced from local goat whey, and EM-1.
It is then fermented until the horsetail fern is digested and extracted into the liquid and the sugars are consumed by the microbes, which locks in the pH for stability and ease of use in the garden.
Why use it
Horsetail fern is known to be high in silica and is used in the biodynamic preparation known as BD508, a botanical tea. This extract is particularly useful in the transition from veg to bloom and throughout the bloom cycle.
