Description
Pushin' P is a 4-in-1 high-phosphorus blend, designed to be a diverse amendment with a focus on organic sources of phosphorus. Organic phosphorus sources are few, and this blend gives you the benefits of 4 ingredients in 1 amendment.
As with all organics, less is more, so make sure not to push too hard.
What's in it
-
Organic Rice Bran: Naturally high in phosphorus and low in heavy metals, rich in carbon.
-
Fish Bone Meal: 20% phosphorus and high calcium content, with all the trace elements for balanced nutrient levels.
-
Active 2-20-2: Micronized calcium phosphate, low in heavy metals, enhanced with organic Non-GMO amino acids for better chelation.
-
Black Soldier Fly Insect Frass: High in phosphorus and biology, delivers essential micronutrients without heavy metal concerns.
Combining them increases diversity and lowers the chances of buildup from excessive use of single ingredients.
How to use
-
Amending soil: Use at 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil.
-
Topdressing: Use 1-2 tablespoons for smaller plants and 1/4 cup for larger plants.
-
Compost tea: Use 1/4 cup per 4-5 gallons of water at the start of brewing your tea.
Excellent for seedling soil mixes, flowering plants and fruit trees.
Good to know
- Soil testing best practices recommend a 2:1 phosphorus to potassium ratio.
- A good fit for transitioning into the flowering phase, or for amending against a soil test to boost phosphorus levels.
- P is excellent for rooting and fruiting.
What phosphorus does for plants
-
Energy: Phosphorus is a key component of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the primary energy carrier in all living organisms. ATP provides the energy for processes within the plant, including photosynthesis, respiration and nutrient uptake, and phosphorus helps form the energy-rich compounds those processes need.
-
Genetic material and cell membranes: Phosphorus is part of the backbone of DNA and RNA, which are vital for genetic information transfer and protein synthesis and support proper cell division and growth. It is also a component of phospholipids, the structural framework of cell membranes, which is important for maintaining cell integrity and facilitating nutrient transport.
-
Roots, flowers and fruit: Adequate phosphorus promotes strong, extensive root development, which helps the plant absorb water and nutrients from the soil. It is crucial for the reproductive stages, supporting the formation of flowers, seeds and fruits. Sufficient phosphorus can lead to bigger and more abundant flowers and improved fruit and seed production.
