Down To Earth has been making dry organic fertilizers in Eugene, Oregon for decades, and they sell them in boxes rather than bottles — which tells you most of what you need to know about the company. The range is built around single-ingredient meals and minerals: bone meal, blood meal, kelp, neem seed, langbeinite, azomite. Most of the line is OMRI listed.

This is the brand for growers who would rather build their own soil than buy a program. Because you are buying individual inputs, you can amend precisely for what your soil test or your plants are telling you, and it works out considerably cheaper per pound than liquid feeding. Reading the chart

Down To Earth publishes application rates rather than a week-by-week schedule, because dry amendments work on a different clock than liquid feed. Rates are given per square foot, per gallon of soil, and per plant — check which column you are reading.

Amendments need time and biology to become available. Mix into soil two to four weeks before planting where you can, and top-dress mid-cycle rather than trying to correct a deficiency the same week.
