Gro Block Improved GR5.6 Large 3" w/Hole 3" x 3" x 4" Shrink wrapped/Strip
Grodan partnered with the Wageningen University and Research facility in The Netherlands and top growers throughout North America to identify the optimal stone wool substrate and irrigation strategies for specialty crops. The result of months of scientific research and trials is Grodan Gro-Blocks Improved with Grodan’s Advanced Wetting Agent.
These leading-edge blocks have the optimal fiber structure and physical properties for crop uniformity, more even Water Content (WC) and Electrical Conductivity (EC) distribution throughout the entire block, and the greatest steering capabilities available. Water distribution is more uniform throughout the entire block which is the basis for a well-defined root system with higher capacities for water and nutrient uptake to produce robust and vigorous crops.
New and improved wetting agent and hydrophilic technology greatly enhances the water characteristics of Grodan Gro-Blocks Improved giving even better water distribution over the height of the block. This results in greater plant development and steerability and more efficient use of water and nutrients.
Optimized wool structure allows for faster rooting-in and nutrient solution replenishment, all while the Gro-Block Improved maintains its structure, firmness, and rigidity throughout the growing process.

Key Benefits
Retains sufficient water
The Advanced Wetting Agent in all Grodan Improved Gro-Slab’s results in more uniform water distribution throughout the entire slab. As the slab retains sufficient moisture at all times the risk of plants drying out is minimized. The improved capillary action of Gro-Slabs also ensures that moisture is retained more evenly throughout the entire slab.
Easy irrigation
The properties of all Grodan Improved Gro-Slabs enable a multi-faceted irrigation strategy by allowing growers to vary the water volume within a safe range of between 55% and 78% (day level). If insufficient water has been supplied, the slab can be re-saturated quickly at any desired moment. And if too much water has been given, the slab’s properties will ensure that excess water is drained away efficiently to prevent the WC from rising too high.
Fast, uniform crop development
The vertical, fibrous structure of all Grodan Improved Gro-Slabs enables roots to penetrate the slab easily, resulting in fast root development. Homogenous development in the root zone guarantees vigorous and uniform crop growth resulting in stronger, healthier plants. In addition, the firmness of the slab structure guarantees a stable root volume right up until the end of the cultivation cycle.
Excellent Steerability
The ability of Grodan Improved products to distribute WC and EC evenly throughout the slab volume creates optimal steering capabilities. Growers have more control of the plant’s balance throughout the crop cycle, allowing plant steering with precise adjustments of the WC and EC in the rootzone.
Sustainable water and nutrient use
Stone wool fibres do not bind nutrients and do not require flushing at the start of the cultivation cycle. An initial targeted application of water and nutrients in the cultivation cycle enables sustainable water and fertilizer use. In combination with other management strategies, including GroSens and e-Gro tools that enable precision growing, Grodan Improved GroSlabs facilitate optimum crop steering for healthy plants and greater yields
The renewed plugs result in a maximum number of useable and homogeneous seedlings. Both form and strength have been greatly improved for good machine and manual processing. Whether sowing or transplanting, the new plug is the solution to achieving a homogeneous sowing result.
Improved homogeneity
Optimum robustness and flexibility
Ideal air/water balance
Consistent shape of the seed hole
Identically shaped plugs
Root development through the entire plug
Gro-Slabs provide the final stage for growing a spectacularly large plant. Transplant your Gro-Block plant onto a slab just like professional growers. They come in clearly marked biodegradable UV-resistant sleeves for comfortable handling and algae prevention. With the Uni-Slab, all plant roots are protected and contained for the life of the plant. Due to its size, the Uni-Slab is perfect for one large plant. Uni-Slab has the benefits of a slab with the versatility of a block. All Gro-Slabs have vertical fibers except the 12 in Gro-Slab, which has horizontal fibers.
Mini-Blocks sit in a tray (flat) without support for easy starting of seeds and cuttings. These Mini-Blocks are individually wrapped in white plastic to minimize algae growth. Remove wrapping and transplant into any loose media such as Grow-Cubes or coconut fiber or leave wrapping on and set on top of a larger Gro-Block. Packed in easy tear-away strips, labeled with instructions.
Grodan Stonewool (rockwool) is made from molten rock spun into cotton candy-like fibers and then compressed into cubes, blocks, or slabs. Where other rockwool brand manufacturers cut all sizes from one batch of wool, Grodan is unique by making different types of fibers. The purpose is to support the requirement of the plant in the different plant stages. Grodan has a tremendous capacity for absorbing nutrient solution while retaining plenty of oxygen for rapid plant growth. Grodan comes in graduated sizes. Seedlings started in cubes are easily transferred to blocks and then onto slabs, if desired. Seedlings or cuttings started in the Grodan cubes can also be transplanted into more traditional planters and growing mediums.
Grodan A-OK plugs are designed for seed and cutting propagation prior to "blocking on" into larger growing blocks. The V-shape design of the plug discourages tangling of roots between the plugs in the A-OK plug sheet. A-OK plugs come in a sheet that fits a standard 10x20 flat.
New Grodan Improved! Improved product at current pricing. New density + new hydrophilic technology = better water distribution and root development. Granulated rockwool can be used alone or as an amendment to organic based mixes. For example, the addition of water absorbant granulate to peat mixes at 25-50% volume increases water holding capacity and aeration, improving plant growth and shelf life. The water repellent granulates are superior substitutes for aerators such as perlite or Styrofoam. The granulate is prilled for easy mixing.Granulated rockwool as potting mix: When you use granulated rockwool to pot up your plants, the great advantage is that you never have to change the mix. The rockwool will last for the life of your plant. Rockwool's high water holding capacity will enable you to go on vacation without worrying about your plants drying out.

They feature improved grooves at the base to promote better drainage. They are available in a large assortment of sizes and configurations to suit all types of plants. These growing blocks are used for direct sowing or "blocking on" of Macro and Multiblock raised plants. AO 36/40 plugs fit well into the hole sizes provided by the blocks. The blocks can then be placed on top of a slab to provide for a larger growing volume. Hugo is the largest of the growing blocks. It provides enough growing volume to support a larger plant, so it does not need to be placed on top of a slab.6 blocks per strip, 36 strips per case.Note: This item is for commercial use and has no retail wrapping or labeling.
